At the very least, the BBC should announce an immediate withdrawal of support for Glastonbury. This private venture ought never have been gifted such promotion by our national broadcaster . Add to that this perpetual political propaganda from extremists, and they really should be taken off the airwaves.
None of this is new. Indeed, this has all been reported for some time with no consequences. Whether the BBC is redeemable is intertwined with the question of whether the UK is lost. If the BBC is to be turned around then the people and the government of the UK must act. Now!
The BBC is publicly funded correct? Who in thr British political system is calling for what you demand here? Who is resisting Qatari money? Who is ready to shutter the BBC if it refuses to stop promoting Jew hatred (and other hard left principles)? Anyone? Because it seems to me that while the United States is in a lot of trouble, Britain may already be lost.
Just a small note here that I don’t think Jew hatred classifies as a “hard left principle”. Antisemitism exists everywhere on the political spectrum. Of course “the left” is clearly the sore thumb sticking out nowadays. But pro-zionist voices critical of antisemitism also luckily exist on the left (and even the hard left). Better if people unite against antisemitism across political divides, I don’t think this is a right/left issue..
I agree with you. At the same time, the left has more cultural and institutional — e.g., universities, NGOs, liberal officeholders — power and that is the accelerant for this brand of antisemitism cleverly packaged as “humanitarian” anti-Israel criticism.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali explained it quite well in The Free Press:
Islamism brings the fire—holy rage, a fixation on martyrdom, and a visceral hatred for Jews that predates the state of Israel by centuries. Maoism brings the strategy—the long march through institutions, the cultural struggle sessions, the rewriting of history, the reframing of reality through social media and sound bites.
When these ideologies converge—and they have—you get something far more dangerous than a political protest. You get a cultural movement. And this one has a clear mission: Erase not just Israel “from the river to the sea,” but the Jewish people from the moral map…
The scariest part is that there is no centralized command, no imam issuing decrees, no party chairman drawing strategy. It’s organic now. The algorithm is the accelerant. The more aggressive the footage, the more viral the cause. You don’t need a pulpit or a politburo—you just need a phone and a target.
One day it’s a video. The next, it’s a knife or a pistol or a Molotov cocktail hurled through a synagogue window—because the digital applause doesn’t just permit the violence, it practically demands it.
I am sure exceptions exists and obviously hard right extrimism harbors Jew hatred as well. However it is impossible to deny the fact that the propogation of Nazi level lies directed against Israel is a form of Jew hatred that has throroughly permeated the hard left and to a lesser degree the non hard left which pretends its hatred for Israel is directed solely against Benjamin Netanyahu. And the left (And in some cases the hard left) dominated institutions in a way the right simply does not, which is the basis of this attack on the BBC. The BBC Jew hatred is (today) based purely on leftist hatred for Israel. In the past it might have been different. Of course there should be unification across political divides on this. Of course it shouldn't be a right/left issue. But it is and pretending otherwise for the sake of "unity" doesn't help.
One needs only look at the election this week in NYC to see that Jew hatred disguised as anti Israel IS a hard left platform. And, NYC is fast on its way to becoming the next city taken over by Islamist. The hard left pushed DEI. Their model says that Jews are oppressors. It’s easy for them to be anti semitic. We are colonists, and oppressors in their intersectional model. I agree with everything you said, Doug.
This is sadly true of the public service television in my native Sweden as well, and lots of media outlets everywhere. It’s just not obvious to me what is the root cause of all of this. They seem to have no problem “othering” Israelis and Jews by extension, even though it literally runs counter to core elements of their political beliefs. 🤷♂️
Thanks for writing this Andrew. BBC have now gone far beyond the pale. Here is what will happen: Some smug BBC executive will say that they are getting just as much criticism for being pro-israeli as they are for being anti-Israeli (which I believe amazingly is actually true, and is an explicit strategy of the other side). He will then go on to say that given they are getting equal complaints from both sides, that this indicates to them that they are getting the balance about right!
This is Berlin 1933. Our national broadcaster is seeding hate against Jews. The Police are standing by watching. Jews are being pushed out of professions with publishers and art galleries refusing to showcase jewish artists. Jews are being harassed on the streets. Jewish property, including David Collier who you cite, is being vandalised. These are ALL the preconditions of a holocaust. It is happening right here in central London every day. This is not a grass roots campaign. It is top down, organised, funded, orchestrated, messaged, expertly delivered and Britain is too weak to resist it.
Thank you SO MUCH for this. I have long viewed “The Beeb” as being nothing more than an anti-Israel propaganda machine. This is proof that it is much more evil than just that.
I have to ask—I have never lived in the UK, so I have no idea how “ordinary people” view it. What is the perception there of the network?
It used to be good and still produces first-class programmes, so long as they aren't news. They repeat much Hamas propaganda without question. Their bias has made me question what else they're not reporting on properly!
Defunding cannot be an option. Qatar and/or other foreign actores could easily fund the BBC entirely and i have no doubt would be ready to do so. The BBC is still the UK’s official broadcaster. What is needed is a completely new leadership and a demand none activist, balances, journalism backed by research and verification, including firings of personal where needed.
I find much reason to criticise Israel, honestly. They have been complacent to the point of gross negligence in their failure to even attempt to control the narrative. The result was that the entire Gaza campaign was reported and framed by embedded Al Jazeera journalists, with predictable consequences. Today's BBC is not what it was. Its journalists are generalists not experts and they're reacting and responding to what is fed to them by other sources.
We westerners have only the shallowest understanding of the Arab world, and even less of the dysfunctional ultraviolent Palestinian extremist subculture. We keep trying to understand it and frame it through our own cultural lenses. That's why a BBC commissioning editor can imagine that interviews 'on the ground' in Gaza will result in a balanced and factual documentary. It's why we engage in good faith with obvious lawfare and propaganda. This is a problem, a naivety, that goes far beyond just the BBC.
For insight into the near-absence of pushback by Israel against the mass propaganda campaign of the Islamists, I recommend listening to the recent conversation between Sam Harris and Haviv Rettig Gur on Harris' podcast "Making Sense".
Thank you so much for this. I hope more brave people speak out about this.
We have the same issue here in Canada with our state-funded broadcaster, the CBC. The CEEB is a mouthpiece for the current ruling Liberal Party, under whose "leadership" we have seen a 670% explosion of anti-semitic incidents since 10/7/23. When the federal government condescended to acknowledge an incident (such as THREE incidents of people opening fire on a jewish girls elementary school in Toronto) the official statement included an admonition to guard against "Islamophobia". As if that the most pressing social problem at this time.
Enough is enough, spot on. You have voiced precisely how so many see the BBC now. BBC Verify using Qatar funded Kings College academics to push their propaganda, what more proof do we need? Arrogant and patronising to its fee paying audience.
This will not end until people stop paying their license fee. If you are still paying it, you are part of the problem. Stop it. Stop your parents and children paying it. Stop everyone you know paying it. There is NOTHING they can do to you.
What disturbs me most is even when the BBC get called out - its not for whats impostant its always for the incidental and side issues.
The BBC Gaza "documentary" was flawed in so many ways - the entire documentary was not a true reflection of a day in the life a 'Gazan child' - it was acted as called out by so many. The BBC doctoring out the kill the Jews and changing it to kill the Israelis.
But the entire 'investigation' is into the links and the funds paid to Hamas ministers. The Jew haters out there make the case that the documentary was 'true' and factual there was just 'an issue' with the narrator.
Gary Lineker was sacked (something the BBC have wanted to do for ages) for the Rat emoji. This has allowed them to say - the Jews cancelled him because of an emoji - instead of the actual twisted video he shared - with so many untruths about Israel.
I heard commentators today pointing out that Jews are busy with chants from this stupid group at Glastonbury - while the next story in the BBC timeline is about an Israeli strike on civilians. The problem is not the BBC broadcasting chants of death to the IDF - Although its terrible - the problem is that the hatred that is allowing this to happen stems from the BBC being able to print so many falsehoods about the IDF and this war and not do anything about it.
How many investigations have Jews made over the reporting of the BBC - how biased it is and they are still printing their bile with impunity.
They slipped in the High court ruling today about the UK Government winning the right to keep exporting F35 parts. What they kept from the article is that the UK government and the High Court believe there is very low chance of there being genocide in Gaza. This should be the biggest part of the story - but they keep it out - because it does not suit their narrative.
I believe that every bit of political capital, pressure, must be brought to bear on them to have a truly independent enquiry into their reporting. This is what all Jews must focus on.
They need to be shown up for their bias. Not for allowing those biases - which now that they have allowed permeate their gullible audiences - to bring to the fore the reaction.
Death to IDF is the symptom not the actual virus - the virus is the brainwashing of UK citizens that everything the IDF is done with immoral motives. The broadcasting of X rated war pornography - to elicit the desired response.
If the BBC would be publishing videos and pictures from the Russian front lines - day in day out - Glastonbury would be chanting death to Ukraine too. OK they wouldn't as they're not Jewish. But you know what I mean.
BBC have blood on their hands. The organisation has antisemitism running through its core. They demonstrate this to us each day. The reporting wing of Hamas, Sky News (UK) are no better. Both Companies reporting from the beginning has been very biased and obviously against Israel. I think the IDF should deal with 'Bob/Pascal' 😉
At the very least, the BBC should announce an immediate withdrawal of support for Glastonbury. This private venture ought never have been gifted such promotion by our national broadcaster . It’s organic…. Correct, sadly

It's not yet 1933 Germany. The authorities and policies have not yet gone full Jew-hating.
But it's not 1929, when Jews still lived mostly carefree in Germany.

Outrage as cops 'ignore Palestine mob holding swastikas and punching Jewish protesters'
Above - first of so many many examples I could have chosen.
I suspect there are BBC employees who are not just excusers but actual antisemites.

We view it pretty much as Andrew has written, biased anti semitic and seemingly thinking it is untouchable, time to defund it.

The State is complicit
I’m not very familiar with the British system- how much of BBC’s funding is from taxpayer money?
