Iran knows that Vance is desperate for a deal. They have no problem with belittling the VP. The pictures coming out of Switzerland where they snubbed Vance is insulting and he needed to walk away at that moment. They also do not care what Trump says on Truth Social. He says things all the time and then never follows through. I am so disgusted.

Vance serves Trump. They cannot be separated. If Vance is "desperate for a deal" it means that Trump is. Vance has no power independent of Trump.

Very true. I am more upset about Vance being snubbed and he just standing there looking like a lemming instead of walking out and leaving

The whole thing is idiotic because everyone on earth knows that Trump doesnt mean it. That tomorrow when they say they will return he will praise them again.

"Barking dogs have no bite," as you know, the Bedouins say. And, the Persians, know.

Negotiating with the masters of bargaining in the souk against a Peter Thiel Marine journalist, a builder from Queens, and his arrogant son-in-law financed by the Kingdom, is an unfair mismatch.

Trump's "bluster one day, grovel the next" is entire incoherent and serves only Iran and its allies.

Here’s Claude on an example of the wiliness of the Persians: β€œAeschylus, The Persians β€” Written shortly after Salamis, the play has the Persian queen Atossa and chorus repeatedly invoke guile and stratagem (dolos) as characteristically Persian methods of warfare, contrasted with Greek directness in battle.” Plus Γ§a change.

And it's a "smell" with significant strength.

β€˜Tehran smells weakness’ with the Trump / Vance bark, but the bite from Israel is ongoing. It’s a waiting game, with Trump having to answer to his electorate, whilst Iran has zero interest in its people.

Why WOULDN’T Iran feel emboldened? They’re getting everything they want including, it seems, seeing the anti-Israel wing of the Republican Party prevail in its power struggle with the pro-Israel wing (the Democrats, unfortunately, are pretty much a lost cause at this point).

I am so disgusted with how Vance was treated in Switzerland, and Iran appears to be very confident they have Vance and Trump right where they want them - weak and ineffective. EKB hit the nail on the head with their comment regarding Trump's comments on Truth Social and never following through. We need real leadership, not words or caving into Iran.

Pretty much sums it up. Survival was always going to a victory for the Iranian regime but now they seem to be in a great position to force considerable concessions.

Good analysis Andrew but did you forget that the leaders of Iran are dead or hopelessly divided? The revolutionary garde consists of a number of cults that fight eachother. The Khamenei’s are all dead. The people are against all of them. And Iran can’t stash its huge amount of oil barrels anywhere anymore. Iran needs a deal desperately.

And trump is giving one to them instead of leveraging their weaknesses. He’s snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
