Strategy trumps Trump
The USA's approach to Ukraine is either ignorant or uncaring of the future
And so Ukraine is battered into agreeing to a possible ceasefire; not battered by Russian military attrition, but by their former allies in Washington. This deal has been inevitable since the Oval Office Ambush and the withdrawal of American military and intelligence support from Ukraine.
Next, I suspect a few things will happen in the immediate short-term.
Russia will agree to the ceasefire. The USA has already held talks with Russia in Saudi Arabia, so, likely, terms have already been agreed upon. Russia has been gifted the upper hand. They know they have only 3.5 more years of Trump to wait, during which time they must pause operations. This gives them time to rearm and reconstitute ready for the next round.
Ukraine will be forced to cede land in permanent ceasefire talks. The war will end (for now). Putin will be able to spin this as a win as he will keep Crimea, Donbass, and the rest. Trump will claim this as a personal peacemaking achievement.
Likely, Ukraine will then hold an election. Moscow will throw the subversion and disinformation books at this election campaign to ensure that a Moscow-facing government wins.
To quote Tacitus, “to plunder, butcher, steal, these things they misname empire: they make a wasteland and they call it peace.”
